AUDIO ASSIGNMENT 1 : AUDIO IN MEDIA REPORT

AUDIO IN MEDIA REPORT
Find sequences from or trailers to your  2 chosen media products ( 1 film/ television programme and 1 game). You will be writing a report how these sequences use different types of audio ( minimum 300 words).
Closely watch your  sequences  or trailers in Youtube, and  describe and explain how the types of audio are being used throughout  both. You should use a wide range of  examples ( a target should be a minimum of 5 main points and examples  per type of audio ) from your trailers or sequences , with specific timings .

The types of audio used: THESE SHOULD BE YOUR HEADINGS.
  • Music ( including gameplay music, background music, repeated notes or themes)
  • Sound Effects (individual effects such as  gunshots, rainfall etc. also including background noise, crowd noise etc. )
  • Dialogue ( e.g conversation, speech, voiceover, announcements, commentary)
Explain how your examples of the above types of audio are being used by explaining their  purpose :  this could include:

  • To create mood, e.g. tension, fear, laughter, authority
  • To create ambience ( background realism)
  • To create rhythm/pace (beat)
  • To match visual images
  • To contradict visual  images
  • To give information to audience
  • To persuade the audience about something (through dialogue or repetition)
  • To help the audience identify with a character
  • To introduce a specific time and place

For example:
“The slow rhythm of the drums at 1:30 could signify the heartbeat of the character and cause tension in the audience”.
“ The background music between 30 seconds and 2 minutes 30 seconds matches the pace of the visual images and helps create a sense of place , as the music is modern and urban “.
There is a conversation between the dad and his son in the trailer after 1 minute. This gives the audience information about the plot of the film  and makes the audience realise that the main character has major family problems”.

You should explain and evaluate rather than simply describe the use and purpose of audio and you should use detailed examples
